Temple Tree Hospitality: A Milestone for Sustainable Tourism Development in The Gambia

On January 31, 2026, PMA Group's CEO Ahmet Pandır had the privilege of standing alongside fellow shareholders of Temple Tree Hospitality, senior government representatives, community leaders, and H.E. Adama Barrow to mark the foundation stone ceremony of Temple Tree Hospitality in Tanji.

This was not simply a ceremonial milestone. It represents the formal beginning of a long-term, professionally structured destination development that reflects our core philosophy: responsible investment with measurable, sustainable impact.

A Long-Term Commitment to Tanji

Temple Tree Hospitality is backed by a total investment commitment of USD 200 million and is designed as a phased, master-planned beachfront tourism destination on The Gambia’s Atlantic coast  .

The project integrates hospitality, leisure and residential components with a clear focus on:

  • Sustainability and renewable energy integration

  • Responsible land modelling

  • Preservation of natural features

  • Strong integration with local communities

PMA Group’s participation reflects our strategic approach: partnering in developments that combine international quality standards with local value creation.

A Strong Shareholder Platform

Temple Tree Hospitality brings together founding partners with complementary expertise across the tourism value chain  :

This structure ensures that development, operations, aviation connectivity, distribution, and destination expertise are aligned from day one.

For PMA Group, being part of this shareholder platform means contributing strategic structuring, financial discipline, and long-term growth planning to a project that extends far beyond traditional resort development.

Designing a Year-Round Destination

Temple Tree Hospitality is conceived as a multi-phase destination comprising six distinct resort components, totaling approximately 1,500 units, ranging from accessible entry-level offerings to high-end luxury  .

Once fully completed, the destination is expected to welcome up to 200,000 visitors annually and generate substantial employment opportunities during both construction and operational phases  .

The key differentiator is the structured phasing model:

  • Progressive openings

  • Risk-managed capital deployment

  • Market-responsive expansion

  • Long-term asset value creation

This approach positions Temple Tree Hospitality not as a speculative development, but as a professionally executed destination platform.

Strategic Alignment with National Vision

During the ceremony, President Barrow emphasized tourism as a strategic driver of national development and welcomed high-quality investment aligned with environmental responsibility and long-term goals  .

The alignment between private investors and public vision is fundamental. Sustainable destination development requires:

  • Political stability

  • Regulatory clarity

  • Community inclusion

  • Environmental accountability

The Gambia’s reputation as one of Africa’s safest and most stable destinations, combined with its year-round Atlantic climate and accessibility from Europe, provides a strong foundation for long-term tourism growth  .

Tanji, with its unspoiled beaches and vibrant local culture, offers a distinctive alternative to established destinations such as Cabo Verde and Senegal  .

Temple Tree Hospitality reflects the type of project PMA Group actively seeks to support:

  • Long-term capital commitment

  • Structured governance

  • Measurable socio-economic impact

  • International standards combined with local integration

Initial openings are scheduled for the end of next year, with phased delivery as construction progresses  .

This milestone marks the beginning of a multi-year journey — one focused on building not only hospitality assets, but a sustainable destination ecosystem that contributes meaningfully to The Gambia’s economic future.

Temple Tree Hospitality is more than a resort development.

It is a platform for responsible growth — and we are proud to be part of that journey.

Congratulations on reaching such an important milestone. Temple Tree Hospitality appears to be a well-planned project that balances tourism growth, environmental responsibility, and long-term value creation for local communities. The focus on sustainability, phased development, and community integration is especially encouraging and sets a strong example for future destination projects.

What stands out most is the emphasis on creating experiences that bring people together, whether through travel, culture, or leisure activities. In a different way, digital entertainment communities achieve something similar. For example, I've enjoyed exploring the Nulls Brawl game from https://nullbrawls.org/, where players from different backgrounds connect through shared experiences and engagement. Wishing the entire Temple Tree Hospitality team continued success as this exciting project moves forward.
