Oktoberfest is more than just a festival; it’s a time-honored tradition, a cultural experience, and for PMA Group & Partners, an annual highlight we eagerly anticipate all year. This year’s celebration was no exception, as we came together once again to embrace the spirit of Bavaria, sharing joy, camaraderie, and, of course, great food and beer.
The History of Oktoberfest
The origins of Oktoberfest date back to October 12, 1810, when Crown Prince Ludwig of Bavaria (later King Ludwig I) married Princess Therese of Saxony-Hildburghausen. The citizens of Munich were invited to join the festivities, which included horse races, music, and plenty of local brews. The event was such a success that it became an annual tradition, growing over the years into the world-famous festival we know today.
While the original celebrations took place in October, they eventually shifted to September for better weather conditions. Today, Oktoberfest is celebrated across the globe, bringing people together in the true Bavarian spirit of gemütlichkeit—warmth, cheer, and good company.
